Vidhana Soudha is one of Bengaluru's most iconic landmarks and a proud symbol of Karnataka's democratic governance. Located in the heart of the city opposite Cubbon Park, this magnificent legislative building serves as the seat of the Karnataka State Legislature. Completed in 1956 under the visionary leadership of Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the structure is built entirely from indigenous granite by Indian artisans, reflecting the nation's spirit of self-reliance after Independence. Designed in the impressive Neo-Dravidian style, the building features towering granite columns, elegant arches, a majestic central dome crowned with the Indian National Emblem, and beautifully carved pillars inspired by traditional Indian craftsmanship.
With over 300 rooms spread across more than 500,000 square feet, it houses the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, and several important government departments. Visitors can admire its grand architecture, illuminated evening views on Sundays and public holidays, landscaped gardens, historic statues, inscriptions, and, with prior permission, observe legislative proceedings from the public gallery, making it one of Bengaluru's most significant heritage attractions.
