Nandi Hills

Nandi Hills is one of the best places to visit near Bengaluru for a quick hill getaway, sunrise trip, and scenic day outing. Located in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district, about 60 km from Bengaluru, this hill destination rises to around 1,478 metres above sea level and is known for cool weather, panoramic viewpoints, and a layered history. Earlier called Nandidurga, the hill was associated with Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, and later became an important stronghold under local rulers, Haider Ali, and Tipu Sultan. The fortifications on the hill and the famous Tipu’s Drop still reflect that past. Nandi Hills is especially popular for its sunrise views, when clouds often drift below the hilltop and the landscape glows in soft morning light. Visitors come here for scenic drives, short walks, viewpoints, photography, and historic spots such as Tipu’s Drop and the hilltop temples. With its easy access from Bengaluru, pleasant climate, and mix of nature and heritage, Nandi Hills remains one of Karnataka’s most loved weekend escapes.
