Vijaya College, Bengaluru, is a premier institution established under the Bangalore High School (BHS) Higher Education Society, founded in 1944 by a group of visionary educationists to expand access to quality science education at a time when the city had very limited higher education opportunities. Originally launched as Bangalore Intermediate College in 1945 and renamed Vijaya College in 1946, the institution moved to its present campus in Basavanagudi in 1953 and steadily expanded its academic offerings with undergraduate programs from 1956, followed by commerce education in 1970 and several professional and life science programs, including BCA, BBM, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics, and Biochemistry, in later years. In keeping with the evolving needs of higher education, the college introduced postgraduate programs in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Commerce between 2011 and 2014, supported by continuous enhancement of its academic infrastructure. Following the Government of Karnataka's bifurcation policy in 2002, Vijaya College became an exclusive degree institution and has since developed into a comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate college. With a legacy spanning more than seven decades, the institution has educated thousands of students, earned a reputation for academic excellence and holistic development, and today serves around 2,600 students while continuing its commitment to providing accessible, high quality education and nurturing future ready graduates.
